About the Event

The Coastal Resilience Short Course Level I: Foundations will be held from 2–3 June 2025 at Griffith University’s Gold Coast Campus, offering a comprehensive introduction to coastal management in Australia and the Asia–Pacific. Designed for professionals working in local and state government, NGOs, and the private sector, this foundational program blends expert-led sessions with practical learning to build essential knowledge in coastal resilience, coastal hazards, and adaptive approaches to shoreline change.

The course will be delivered through interactive classroom-based presentations, group discussions, and applied case study work, providing participants with the skills and frameworks needed to understand and respond to coastal risks. In-person attendees will also benefit from a catered program, including morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea.

Participants registered for the Joint QLD Coastal and Coast to Coast Conference will have the opportunity to take part in a full-day Gold Coast Study Tour, which explores site-specific challenges and management responses across one of Australia’s most intensively managed urban coastlines. This tour will be available exclusively to those attending both the short course and the conference.

The program introduces foundational concepts in geomorphology, coastal hazards, planning and policy frameworks, community engagement, and nature-based solutions. Led by experts from research, government, and industry, the course fosters peer learning and networking across sectors.

Whether you are beginning your journey in coastal management or seeking to consolidate your knowledge, Level I provides a critical base for understanding the evolving challenges and tools that underpin resilient coastal futures.
